Chasing Dreams... in the New Year

Happy New Year!

Here it is, the cliche post that has gone up all over the world in the past few days with the normal be healthier, be happier, be productive goals that it seems every good intentioned human being seeks on January 1 every year. I got to see 15 or so of these resolution-eers at the YMCA today. As I ran on the treadmill like a hamster on a wheel, I thought about the journey they were about to embark upon and what it would require of them.

They were registering for change...a registration that would cost them money and time.
A goal that requires me to give something up makes me that more persistent on reaching that goal. Does every goal we set mean we must sacrifice something else to make it happen? I think so.

Here are the goals I want to chase in 2010. These are a few of the ones that made the cut...the ones I'm willing to sacrifice time, effort, sleep, comfort, and even money for...

1. Write, write, and write some more.

Working on some potential Bible studies, learning a growing as I write, and keeping
up with this blog.

2. Run a marathon.
April 24th: Music City Marathon is the big day. Running a half in Chattanooga at
the end of Feb as well.

3. Get my art on a coffee shop's wall.
Bongo Java, Fido, anywhere that will take me... here I come!

4. Successfully direct CK7.
Communicate effectively, inspire excellence, develop leaders, see life-change,
foster love and encouragement; most of all: See God use the CK7 in ways
unimaginable, grow in the Lord and in my vision of who He is and how He works in
the world, cast vision, and serve at all times.

5. Do one thing each week I've never done before.
Go somewhere I've never been, see something I've never seen, learn something I
didn't know...you get the picture. I'll let you guys in on what that one thing is
each week, too. Scout's honor.

There are quite a few other hopes/goals/dreams...but I just can't articulate them efficiently as of yet. That day will come though. They also are the ones that could be fluid and works-in-progress, but there you have it. The list for 2010 of random things outside of the realm of career aspirations, education, or any other considered normal and respectable resolution. Don't get me wrong, I have those, but I thought I'd just share the more out-of-the-box ones for today.

What is one out-of-the-box resolution you are hoping to achieve this year?

I plan on reading a lot more. I use to read at least a book a week, but lately it has been more like one a month. I want to get back to the one a week thing. There's a lot of wisdom out there, and it is going to take a long time for me to sift through what has been written in order to find it.
